How to: Disassemble and Reassemble the Mauser Rifle.
Don't know how to dissemble, and reassemble your Mauser's Rifle?
Learn how to - here at Surplus Rifle with a hands-on, "step by step"
article on how to disassemble and reassemble the Mauser Rifle.
Disassembly Instructions
Figure 1 shows a typical
Mauser.
Remove the bolt as shown in Figure 2.
Turn the rifle over and press down on the
magazine release as shown in Figure 3.
Remove
the magazine cover.
Some
Mausers have screw locks, you can either turn the screw lock so
the receiver screw hole is round or just remove the screw lock.
Remove the front receiver screw from the receiver.
Remove the rear receiver screw from the receiver.
Note:
The trigger guard screws can be difficult to remove.
Some suggestions to help with this are -
Spray some solvent or penetrating oil and let them soak;
Use a proper fitting screw driver;
Use a punch and hammer to tap the screw in the direction
to loosen (this works very well).
Remove the trigger guard and magazine well from
rifle.
Remove the cleaning rod from the rifle.
Figure 10 shows my trick for
removing the front barrel band without marring the stock. If you
don't have a clamp - you need three hands and to be double jointed.
Once the clamp is holding down the barrel band spring, tap lightly
on the front barrel band and it will slide forward.
Figure 11 shows front barrel
band removed.
Remove the barrel band spring from the rifle
as shown in Figure 12.
Lightly tap on the rear barrel sleeve and it
will slide forward off of the rifle stock as shown in
Figures 13 and 14.
Now lift the receiver and barrel from the
rifle stock..
The upper handguard is held on by a spring
around the barrel.
Please note that on the Yugo m48 and other Mausers there may
be a screw at the front of the rear sight that needs to be
removed prior to removing the handguard.
Lift the upper handguard from rear to front.
Lift sight tangent so it is point straight
up. Turn upper handguard till you can remove from sight tangent.
Figure 21 shows the disassembled
Mauser.
Reassembly Instructions
Place upper handguard over sight tangent.
Snap upper handguard into place.
Place barrel and receiver assembly into rifle
stock.
Slide rear barrel band onto rifle stock.
Place barrel band spring in groove. Make sure
the end with the small round button points towards the front of
the rifle.
Place clamp on barrel band spring and tighten
just enough to keep it depressed.
Slide front barrel band onto stock. Make sure
side with small round hole in facing to the right of the rifle.
Lightly tap front barrel band until the round hole is again over
the small button on the barrel band spring
Turn rifle over and place trigger guard and magazine
well into rifle stock.
Insert both receiver screws.
Tighten the receiver screws.
Turn receiver screw locks to locked position.
This is the position that prevents the receiver screws from turning.
