1) With the muzzle pointed in a safe
direction, pull back the bolt and open the
magazine to ensure the the carbine is
unloaded and safe.
2)
Lift the extractor.
3)
With the extractor lifted rotate the bolt to
the left. The extractor now clears the
receiver.
4)
Pull the bolt to the rear and out of the
receiver.
5)
Depress the band spring.
6)
Slide the band forward over the spring and
off the barrel.
7)
unscrew the forward guard screw.
8)
Remove the forward guard screw.
9)
Unscrew the rear guard screw.
10) Remove the rear
guard screw.
11) Remove the trigger
guard.
12) Separate the stock from the barreled
receiver.
13) Unscrew the upper butt plate screw.
14) Remove the upper butt plate screw.
15) Unscrew the lower butt plate screw.
16) Remove the lower butt plate screw.
17) Remove the butt plate.
18) If you have an earlier butt plate
without a trap door then proceed to step 24.
Otherwise unscrew the butt trap spring
screw.
19) Remove the butt trap spring screw.
20) Remove the butt trap spring.
21) Drift out the pin on the butt trap cap.
22) Remove the pin from the butt trap cap.
23) Remove the butt trap cap.
Note: Make certain to follow steps 24
through 29 in the order they are given. Do
not attempt remove the hand guard without
removing the rear sight as you will most
probably damage the hand guard.
A "shortcut"
is not recommended and could REALLY cause
trouble. Many people try to pry the HG over
the sight. Even with the slide-off method
displayed the hand guard may still crack due
to the spring clips.
Note: We purposely do not cover the disassembly and
reassembly of the rear sight assembly
because it is 1) not necessary 2) very
difficult 3) and most likely if you
successfully disassemble the rear sight you
will not be as successful in reassembling
the rear sight.
24) Unscrew the rear sight screw.
25) Remove the rear sight screw.
26) Unscrew the forward rear sight screw.
27) Remove the forward rear sight screw.
28) Remove the rear sight.
29) Slide the hand guard forward and remove
from the barrel.
Not pictured: Removal of the front
sight blade is performed by drifting out the
retaining pin from the left towards right
and insertion of the pin is the opposite
from right to left. Any pins, such as that
for the front sight blade, are driven in
from the right, so should be removed from
the left.
30) With the magazine gate closed, lift the
lug so it is out of its seat. Be
careful not to damage the thin blade on the
hinge pin. They can easily be bent or broken
if the pin is difficult to rotate. It is
best in this case to rotate the pin by
lifting the lug at the front of the thin
blade.
31) While holding the gate firmly closed tap
the hinge bar out of the magazine. Make
certain not to push forward on the thin,
flat lug.
32) Remove the hinge bar.
33) Separate the magazine gate from the
receiver.
34) Remove the magazine spring.
35) Pivot the carrier and follower outward.
36) Lift out the carrier and follower.
37) Unscrew the side plate screw.
38) Remove the side plate screw.
39) Push out the side plate and then draw it
to the rear and remove.
40) Using a drift push the pin out of the
carrier and follower.
41) Separate the carrier and follower.
42) Figure 42 shows the trigger assembly.
43) Push the trigger forward so the sear
clears the receiver and then push from right
to left until the assembly clears the
receiver. Be careful to not let the
sear spring fly free.
44) Remove the sear spring.
45) Drift the trigger pin out.
46) Separate the trigger and sear.
47) Remove the ejector pin and the ejector
will fall out of the receiver.
Note: If all possible use small brass
or nylon non-marring tools when driving out
small parts so as not to damage parts or the
finish on any parts on a highly valuable and
collectible firearm. If all you have (like
pictured) is a small flat blade stainless
steel screw driver please be careful.
48) Rotate the magazine cutoff down and then
insert a small screw driver to depress the
spindle. With the spindle depressed
slide the cutoff out.
49) Remove the spindle from the cutoff.
50) Remove the spindle spring.
Reassembly
Instructions
51) Side the spindle spring over the
spindle.
52) Insert the spindle and spring into the
cutoff.
53) Slide the cutoff into the receiver.
54) Using a small flat blade screw driver
compress the spindle and slide the cutoff
into place.
55) Install the ejector.
56) Install the ejector pin.
57) Combine the sear and trigger. Note
that I left the trigger pin installed. The
pin is tapered and this way you are sure to
install it correctly.
58) Tap in the trigger pin.
59) Insert the sear spring.
60) Insert the hinge of the sear into the
receiver and then using a flat blade screw
driver compress the sear spring.
61) Push in the trigger and sear assembly
from left to right.
62) Insert the side plate front first and
then pivot down..
63) Insert he side plate screw.
64) Tighten the side plate screw.
65) Combine the carrier and follower.
66) Insert the pin and tap into place.
67) Insert arbor of carrier into its hole in
receiver.

69) Figure 69 shows the proper alignment of
the arbor of the carrier and the magazine
spring.
70) Insert the magazine gate into place and
hold there.
71) Insert the hinge bar pin. Push in all
the way.
72) Turn the head of the hinge bar so it
rests in its slot in the receiver.
73) Open and close the magazine to make
certain it functions and does not bind.
74) Slide the hand guard over the end
of the barrel.
75) Align the hand guard so the rear sight
screw holes are centered.
76) Set rear sight in place with ladder
raised. Align the screw holes
77) Insert the forward rear sight screw.
78) Tighten the forward rear sight screw.

85) Tighten the butt trap spring screw.
86) Install the butt plate.
87) Install the upper butt plate screw.
88) Tighten the upper butt plate screw.
89) Install the lower butt plate
screw.
90) Tighten the upper butt plate
screw.
91) Install the barreled receiver into the
stock.
92) Install the trigger guard.

95) Partially tighten the forward guard
screw.
96) Partially tighten the rear guard screw.
97) Fully tighten the
forward guard screw.
98) Fully tighten the
rear guard screw.
99) Slide the band over
the barrel and over the band spring. Not the
direction the "U" points. It should point
forward towards the muzzle end of the
barrel.
100) Swing the extractor
out on the bolt.Insert the bolt into the
receiver with the forward lug facing upward.
101) Rotate the bolt
clockwise while guiding the end of the
extractor so it slips into place.
102) Figure 102 shows
the extractor sitting properly between the
two receiver wings.
103) Close the bolt and
you have completed the disassembly and
reassembly of the Krag carbine.
