1) Make sure rifle is
unloaded. Open the bolt and pull to the rear
of the receiver. Depress the bolt release
and remove the bolt from the receiver.
2)
Pull the cocking piece to the rear and
rotate clockwise until it is between the two
slots. This will be at the seven o'clock
position if the bolt is held as shown in
figure 2.
3)
Allow the cocking piece to retract and rest
against the rear of the bolt plug as shown in
figure 3.
4)
Rotate the locking sleeve until the cam
follower can be removed.
5) Pull the front of the
cam follower out of the locking sleeve.
6)
Slide the the cam follower forward and out
of the slot in the bolt plug.
7)
Separate the cam follower from the rest of
the bolt assembly.
8)
Rotate the locking sleeve
until it can be removed.
9)
Figure 9 shows the lugs on the rear of the
bolt's cylinder. These bolts lock into the
bolt plug. By rotating the locking sleeve
and cylinder the lugs will unlock from the
bolt plug and allow the locking sleeve and
cylinder to be removed from the firing
assembly.
10)
Separate the locking sleeve and cylinder
from the firing assembly.
11)
Pull the cylinder out of
the locking sleeve.
12) Lift the extractor up slightly at the face of the cylinder
so it clears the face. Use a screw driver to
push the extractor off of the cylinder. It
is not recommended that you remove the
extractor from any bolt too often as it will
weaken the spring properties of the
extractor and cause the extractor to not
function optimally.
13) Rotate the
cocking piece clockwise to the slot located
at the nine o'clock position.
Allow the cocking piece to enter the slot.
14) Figure 14 shows the cocking piece in the
correct position/slot.
15) Place the
handle of the cocking piece against a
surface such as shown in figure 15.
The small holes in a reloading tray work
perfect for keeping the round part of the
cocking piece handle in place while you
compress the spring.
16) Compress the spring.
17) While the spring is compressed, remove
the firing pin.
18) Allow the spring to expand slowly and
remove.
19) Remove the cocking piece from the bolt
plug.
20) Figure 20 shows the disassembled k31
bolt.
Reassembly
Instructions
21) Return the extractor to the cylinder.
22) Insert the cocking piece into the bolt
plug.
23) Figure 23 shows the
sear of the cocking piece sitting in the
safe slot.
24) Return the spring to
cocking piece.
25) With the handle of
the cocking piece firmly resting against a
surface, compress the spring and install the
firing pin.
26) Allow the spring to
expand against the rear of the firing pin.
27) Insert the cylinder
into the locking sleeve.
28) Figure 28 shows the
correct alignment of the cylinder and
locking sleeve.
29) Insert the firing
assembly into the locking sleeve/cylinder.
Use thumb pressure to maintain correct
alignment and insert the firing assembly
into the locking sleeve/cylinder. Rotate the
locking sleeve and cylinder a quarter turn
to lock them in place.
30)
Pull the cocking piece to the rear and
rotate counter clockwise until it is between the two
slots. This will be at the seven o'clock
position if the bolt is held as shown in
figure 30. Allow the cocking piece to
retract and rest against the rear of the
bolt pug as shown in figure 30.
31) Insert
the rear of the cam follower into the slot
in the bolt plug as shown in figure 31.
32) Insert
the cocking piece sear into the cam slots in the
cylinder and locking sleeve.
33) Rotate the locking
sleeve until it is aligned as shown in
figure 33.
34) Insert the bolt into
the receiver.
35) If the magazine is
installed, depress the magazine follower and
then slide the bolt fully
forward and close.
36) Rotate the cocking
piece counter clockwise to the slot located at the
six o'clock position.
Allow the cocking piece to enter the slot.
The handle of the cocking piece should look
like figure 36.
37) You are
finished disassembling and reassembling the
Swiss k31 bolt assembly.
