Removal Instructions |
| The Yugo 59/66 SKS
used in this "How To" guide is a California Legal
SKS, with the grenade launcher replaced with a muzzle brake. So
I thought it was kind of pointless to also have a grenade sight
installed. I have received quite a few emails asking me how to remove
it, so I decided to remove it from one of my Yugo 59/66 SKS
and leave the other one intact. This is only one way you can remove
the grenade sight, you can also drill out the pin. Although I think
this is a cleaner method, leaving the rifle looking good after the
procedure. |
 |
1) Figure 1 shows the grenade sight retaining
pin. You guessed it - it keeps the grenade launcher attached to
the barrel. It is flattened at each end - sort of like a rivet and
permanently affixed to the barrel/sight assembly. Thus using a punch
and hammer will have little to no effect in removal. |
|
2) Using a Dremel tool, in figure 2,
I am grinding off the flared ends of the retaining pin on both sides
of the grenade sight. Only grind off a little. |
|
3) Figure 3 shows me grinding off
the pin head on the right side of the grenade sight. |
|
4) Using a cutting wheel on the Dremel tool,
cut through one of the arms of the grenade sight as shown in
figure 4. |
|
5) Wiggle the grenade sight off of the uncut
side and set the sight aside. |
|
6) Using pliers remove the remaining piece
of the grenade sight, as shown in figure 6. |
|
7) Figure 7 shows the removed locking
pin that easily exits out of the channel. The channel is pointed
to in figure 7 by an arrow. |
|
8) Figure 8 shows the bayonet screw being
removed. |
 |
9) Remove the bayonet and cleaning rod as
shown in figure 9. |
 |
10) Figure 10 shows the cleaned up Yugo
59/66 SKS. |
