Postal Match #19

D-Day and Surplusrifle.com 4th Birthday - June 6th

Adobe PDF Downloadable Version of Article

What is a postal match? More.....

A little late missing both the anniversary of D-Day and the 4th anniversary of Surplusrifle.com, but you know the saying, better late than never.  Several people emailed and said they missed out on the 30-06 match. Here is a chance to use those 30-06 US service rifles, as well as Axis weapons that you may have stored as well.

Allies:  Weapons of any of the Allied country that participated in the D-Day invasion are acceptable.  Weapons of same design made AFTER 1944 made by ALLIED countries are acceptable as well. (i.e., your US made M-1 Garand from the Korean war will be fine).

Axis:  Weapons of Germany and the Axis countries that were in Normandy are acceptable.  Weapons that are based on German weapons are acceptable, such as the M48 Yugo (don’t want to simply limit it to PURE German weapons).

When I say, “…that were in Normandy are acceptable.”  does NOT mean that YOUR particular rifle had to have ACTUALLY been there.

PLEASE NOTE, READ THROUGH THE RULES OF EACH MATCH THROUGHLY BEFORE HEADING TO THE RANGE.  EACH MATCH IS UNIQUE AND MAY HAVE RULE CHANGES OVER PREVIOUS MATCHES.

Targets/Course of fire:

NOTE:  TWO different sets of targets to use, distance dependent.

  1. You must use our downloaded targets.
  2. Each set of THREE targets (FIVE shots each) per category must be accompanied by a filled out information sheet. (see below).
  3. Please score your targets.  For scoring help go to: http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/postalscoring/index.asp
  4. Use SIX targets (max) per rifle per category.  Send us the best THREE rifle targets for your score.
  5. Make sure that the black area of the bull is no larger than 6 inches across for 100 yard targets and no larger than 7 1/8 inches across for the 50 yard target.  (set Adobe to print with “fit to printer margins” option).
  6. NO target modifications are allowed.  No center colored paste-ons are allowed.  No marking of the X ring is allowed.
  7. Each shooter may send in ONE set of Three targets in each category for ONE rifle. That is you may only shoot ONE Allied rifle, the same rifle for both categories.  And then you may shoot (if you choose) ONE Axis rifle, the same rifle, for both categories.
  8. Min entry is ONE set of targets in any category using either an Allied or Axis rifle.
  9. Max entry number is a total of FOUR sets of targets; (50&100 yard Allied, 50&100 yard Axis.
  10. When shooting at 50 yards you must decide whether to shoot offhand or on the bench. If you shoot both an Axis and Allied rifle you must shoot both 50 yard shoots in the same category. This means if you shoot your Allied rifle at 50 yards bench then you will also shoot your Axis rifle at 50 yards bench or if you shoot your allied rifle at 50 yards offhand then you will shoot your Axis rifle at 50 yards offhand.
  11. Entry to door prize drawings will be ONE per shooter regardless of number of categories entered.

Scoring:

Prior to sending targets in, please SCORE YOUR OWN targets.  Scores will be verified prior to posting.  If you have questions about scoring, please contact us.

Standard scoring with an X count and a total score out of 150.   If there is a tie on score and X count, a size of group measurement will be used to break the tie.

Surplusrifle.com Postal Match Datasheet rev5a

In an effort to make it easier for us all and to cut down on paper usage, we have designed a “generic” entry match form.  If you include your forum user name, it will be added in the shooting results for the match.  Basically the form was designed to cover any sort of match we may shoot in the future, therefore it may contain lines of info that are NOT required for each and every match.  Example:  There is a section for pistols and pistol loading data.  We have not run any pistol matches (yet).  (I would like to thank Jose F. for his efforts in designing the form, or, if you don’t like it, you can blame him….)

Additional Rules:

·        1st place certificates are awarded in a category where there 7 or less shooters

·        2nd place certificates are awarded in a category where there are 8-15 shooters

·        3rd place certificates are awarded in a category where there are 15+ shooters

·        Juniors are awarded 1st place in a category if there are 1-3 junior shooters

Junior rules:

16 years of age and under, may shoot Category 1 from a BENCH instead of standing.  Other category rules stay the same for juniors.  Please note on entry form whether a shooter is a junior.  Juniors are eligible for door prizes, however, if not appropriate to the age level, their parent/guardian will have to accept the door prize.   Depending on the number of juniors who participate, we may/may not establish a separate sub-category for them.
