What is a postal match?
|
|
|
You could tell that Swiss rifles
and K31 carbines are pretty popular. Even the “lower
grade” rifles now being sold by wholesalers are usually
in a better shape then the masses of Enfields and Mosins.
For this match we had 32 shooters
who sent in a total of 47 sets of targets. In 3 of the
4 categories, the top shooters were determined by group
size. Also, Swiss made GP-11 ammo seemed to hold its
own against the self rollers. |

Q: How/why do you have an interest in your
1903A3 and MAS 36?
A: Because I wanted to participate in a form of
rifle competition that we have here in Belgium "
Fusil d'ordonnance " which is very close to your
postal matches ( 2 x 10 rounds at 100M prone ,
unsupported ,rifles must be in " as issued "
condition but there is a exception made for the
chambering in order to contour the Belgian law
on military cartridge ) also all accessories
must be original or faithful copies, this is why
I upgraded to the 1903A3 as it allow me to use
the 1907 sling ( and is a much superior rifle
anyway )
Q: Your MAS 36 was converted to 7.5 Swiss, why
was that done?
A: See above, for whatever reason the 7.5 Swiss
is not considered a "military cartridge" ???? so
it is possible to buy any manual repeater rifle
in that caliber without a Governor license which
take about 6 months to get. Needless to say this
has made not only the converted MAS but also the
entire K series of Swiss rifle very popular
Q: What do you have to do in Belgium in order to
buy / own / shoot rifles? do you need special
licenses or paperwork?
A: To begin the law is about to change and will
become more restrictive ( surprise !! ) right
now it is about like this.
Sport and Hunting rifles: sale is free but you
have to fill in a "form 9" document which goes
straight to the central firearm register. This
category comprises all shotguns with a minimal
barrel length and all manually operated rifles
in civilian caliber
Defense weapons: sold only upon deliverance of a
police authorization "form 4" which you can get
at your local police station. All pistols and
revolver + .22 manually operated rifles + short
barreled shotguns
War weapons: sold upon deliverance of a "form 4
pour armes de guerre" delivered by the Governor
of Province which take 6 month of some hassle to
get if you are lucky. All military cartridge
chambered rifles + all semi automatic rifles in
civilian chambering ( .22 included )
Paradoxically this covers also all full auto
weapons so that is almost as “easy" to get a
permit for a machine gun as for an hunting rifle
in say 30-06
Q: How hard is it to get ammo?
A: Sport and hunting ammo is for sale free,
everything else is available upon presentation
of your form 4
Q: Do you reload? if you do can you get all the
parts you need?
A: I reload only for my rifles. All parts and
equipment are available for the most popular
calibers
Q: Where do you shoot? Is it a public range or a
private club?
A: Private clubs , most range here are private
but there is some possibility to use military
range notably for competition
Q: How common are military surplus rifle and
pistols? Do a lot of people collect them?
A: Military rifles have become more popular
since the introduction of the Fusil d'ordonnance
competition and there as always been a certain
amount of collector interest
Q: If you could get another rifle, which one
would it be?
A: There is about a zillion weapons that I would
like to put my greedy hands upon
Right now a 1928 "Tommy Gun" or a BAR Hmmmmmm
Q: Anything else you want to talk about?
A: VOTE and whatever it takes never allow a
liberal to get elected to any public function
If it is not yet the case, become a member of
the NRA ( I am a Life Member myself Belgian or
not ) |
