Stuck case remover tool

Contributed by Adam Kielcz

Sooner or later you’ll end up with a case stuck inside resizing die.

In my particular situation a case rim crumbled in a full sizing die. I called my friend and told him what happened. He said that he’ll bring stuck case remover. He did and it worked.

It’s a very simple tool that consists of a metal cylinder, drill and tap and ¼ inch about 1½ -2 inches long bolt.

How does it work?

Remove your die from the press (this maybe the hardest part) and put it in a vise.

Drill a hole in the stuck case through a primer pocket, and then you tap treads.

Next, you screw in the bolt while centering the stem, so the bolt can push it out. If you’re very careful you may not break the decapping pin.

With the stem removed, unscrew the bolt out of the case.

Now thread the bolt through a hole in the cylinder (hollow end facing stuck case) and start screwing the bolt into the case, eventually bolt should pull the case out of the die.

I thought I’m going to have to buy this gizmo!

I looked it up on internet and found that it costs $12.50 to $17.00, so I decided to make my own.

Labels from Pipe Caps

I made a trip to Home Depot and purchased:

Item Cost
¼ inch 20 NC Tap and Drill kit $3.87
2 inch long ¼ bolt with a hex head $0.35
Hex shaped pipe cap (it doesn’t have to be hex shaped as long as it’ll rest on a rim of your die bottom) $0.45
Total cost $4.67

Left to Right: ¼ inch 20 NC Tap and Drill, Pipe Cap, Case and Bolt

Stuck Case Remover installed Ready to Remove the Case from the Die.

All I had to do is drill 5/16 hole through a pipe cap and stuck case tool was done.

BTW it works even better then brand name tool at any cost.

Good shooting!
