Jake is relatively new to
the mil surp collecting arena, having started a
mere year and a half ago. Matt M. (also a match
shooter) got him going by starting out with an
8mm (Mauser), by noting how fun and cheap it was
to shoot...the rest is history so to speak.
Jake does not have a direct focus for
collecting, but does mention that the US rifles
are high on his "like list". He likes to hit
the pawn shops and gun shows for new
acquisitions, but mentions, "....I'd love to
find some old widow that has her husband's
collection of worthless firearms she wants to
get rid of...." (here here!!!). He finds it
funny that he, as a young guy, can go into a
show or shop and knows more about a particular
rifle then the person selling it. His main
source for mil surp into is from ...where
else....Surplusrifle.com....with it's included
Forums.
Jake's first mil surp was a
Czech BRNO 98/22, nothing special about it
really, but his favorite is his "sexy" M1. As
usual, his one dislike (that most of us can
relate to) is that every time we turn around
there is yet another mil surp that we want and
they aren't getting any cheaper. Jake's
shooting experience extends back to shooting
with his grandfather all the way up to the
several Surplusrifle.com postal matches that he
has entered. Jake's favorite mil surp caliber
would be the 7.62x54R round, which they have
done some "plinking" around with and determined
that it packs enough punch to go through several
metal plates.
Prior to shooting the
Surplusrifle.com postals, he did not do any
competition shooting, rather, he was limited to
the more "stress relieving" shooting for the fun
of it and blowing something away. |
