 I recently tried out
some cleaning kits from J. Dewey Manufacturing. They
are known for their excellent one piece cleaning rods. I have a
couple in my garage and some of you probably do also.

The first product is a Pistol/Rifle Cleaning Field Kit (shown
in figure 2). This is really handy and comes in one
very small container that can be easily clipped to a hunting
vest or stuffed in an already too full range bag.

 When
you pull everything out you may find yourself wondering if this
little plastic bottle is like one of those clown cars at the circus,
where an endless line of clowns keep coming out, because there is
a lot of stuff packed in there (shown in figure 3)!

I really like the 30" pull-through cleaning
cord with threaded standard 8/32 female
ends. This way you can either take the brush and patch loop you
get with the kit or augment the kit with your own attachments
(shown in figure 4).
The kit I reviewed was the Rifle-Pistol that
cleans .22-.30 caliber firearms, they also make a Shotgun Model
Kit.

 The next J. Dewey product
is really a great starter kit if you have just purchased that first
surplus rifle and need cleaning supplies. Or if you need to buy
another cleaning rod, then this kit is something to consider. Basically
for the price of a good cleaning rod you can get a cleaning rod
and all of the accessories, all
in all - a pretty good deal. |
 Besides coming with a one
piece, 24 inch, brass cleaning
rod with a muzzle guard to protect rifling, you
also get a brass bore brush, brass patch loop, bottle of Shooters
Choice FP-10 solvent/oil, patches, mil-spec -nylon - cleaning brush,
and a silicone - wiping cloth. |

| Both kits are a pretty
good deal and I am glad to have them. I am partial to the Field
Cleaning Kit - often I am at the range and would like to have a
small cleaning kit, but do not want to drag out all of my gear from
the garage and just end up doing without. Now I can always take
along a kit whether I am going to the range or on a pig hunt and
I don't have to worry about lugging along an extra, large case of
equipment.
