Andrew Mowbray Inc., Publishers; "Complete Guide to the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine" by Bruce Canfield

"A full historical breakdown tells you which guns were used by which troops and how they performed. The total story behind these exciting guns, from their invention through WWII, Korea, Vietnam and beyond! "

Complete Guide to the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine, is a typical Bruce Canfield book. What is mean by that statement is this is very interesting book and even a non-collector would find this a great read.

It is priced a little more than your average firearm book - but that fact is warranted. This is actually two books in one. The first half of the book is dedicated to the M1 Garand, while the second half solely focuses on the M1 Carbine.

Each section tells the story of "why and how" both of these great firearms came into existence.

Over 300 photos include excellent historical war photos of the weapons in action and being carried by soldiers. The photos of the rifles and parts are very close-up and have great detail.

Specifically about the Garand I found the most extensive coverage of sniper rifle variations and bayonets of any book I own or have read.

  • Great coverage of each of the manufacturer/contractors;

  • Production totals by year;

  • Detailed model specifications for each model;

  • Description of arsenal markings;

  • Overall - easy to follow, easy to digest, and easy to understand.
