1)
As always, make sure that the weapon is
unloaded before proceeding. This is
especially important for the Reising as it
lacks any sort of bolt hold open mechanism. |
 |
2)
Make a note how the slot of the bumper plug
lines up in relation to the stock. Nearly
horizontal in this case. |
 |
3) Unscrew
the take down knob just to the rear of the
magazine well. |
 |
4) Remove
the stock from the action |
 |
5) Pull the
trigger to release the tension on the hammer
spring. |
 |
6) Unscrew
the bumper plug at the rear of the receiver
and remove it. This plug has detents
pushing against it (bottom left photo) so to
start loosening it, you will feel “clicks”. |
 |
7) I found
it advantageous to use a towel around the
serrated edges to start loosening the plug. |
 |
8) Figure 8
shows the plug. |
 |
9) Remove
the plug. |
 |
10) Remove
the hammer spring next, it should just drop
out. |
 |
11) Pulling
the trigger, invert the assembly and the
hammer will slide out of the receiver. |
 |
12) Tap out the two tapered magazine guide
pins. |
 |
13) Tap out the two tapered magazine guide
pins. |
 |
14) A closer look at the two pins reveal
that they have one end that is beveled and
tapered. This will be critical to remember
for the assembly phase. |
 |
15) Once the pins have been removed, lift
away the magazine well. |
 |
16) Push the cocking lever to the rear and
look for the dismounting hole in the spring
guide.
|
 |
17) I used a paper clip to hold the spring
compressed before I continued. |
 |
|
18) In order to proceed to the next phase
of lifting out the so called “push action
bar”, you will need to lift and hold up the
connector and disconnector as you lift and
twist the action bar. |
 |
19) While holding the ends of the connector
and disconnector, lift first and then rotate
the action bar out of the receiver 90
degrees.
|
 |
20) Be very careful that you do not bend the
disconnector. (For photo purposes, I staged
the lifting and rotating of the action bar
without lifting the disconnector.) |
 |
21) Point the barrel upwards and pull and
hold the trigger and the bolt will slide
out. |
 |
|
22) Figure 22 shows the Field
Disassembled Reising Model 60. |
 |
|
23) Before starting to put the weapon
back together, take a look at the underside
of the bolt. Notice the notch on the bolt.
This is where the cam lug on the action rod
latches onto so that the bolt will cycle. |
 |
24) Insert the bolt into the receiver while
pressing the trigger. Allow it to slide
forward. |
 |
25) Take care that the bolt’s ejector slot
(on the side of the bolt) slides onto the
ejector that is built into the side of the
chamber (figure 25). You may have to rotate
the bolt a bit to make sure that the bolt
slides completely forward over the ejector. |
 |
|
26) The next step will mate the camming
lug (figure 26) into its corresponding slot
on the bolt (figure 27). |
 |
27) Figure 27 shows the camming lug in the
slot of the bolt. |
 |
28) Carefully lift the ends of the
connector/disconnector and twist the action
bar into place.
(For photo purposes, I staged the lifting
and rotating of the action bar without
lifting the disconnector.) Be careful not
to bend the disconnector. |
 |
29) With the camming lug correctly in its
corresponding slot on the bolt, the action
bar will lay straight and flat to the bottom
of the receiver. |
 |
30) Push back on the cocking lever and
remove the paperclip pin and allow the lever
to come forward slowly. At this point, you
should operate the action to make sure the
camming lug was properly installed. The
bolt should slide back and forth with the
cocking action. |
 |
31) Replace the magazine well making sure
the magazine release is facing toward the
trigger. |
 |
32) Make sure that holes where the tapered
pins go through are clear. |
 |
|
33) Insert the pin, tapered side first,
from the right side of the receiver. For
orientation purposes, note the photo was
taken straight down into the magazine well
and receiver is upside down. Repeat the
process for the front tapered pin and tap
both into place. |
 |
34) Even after tapping, the pins will not
seat completely flush with the edges of the
receiver. Do not hammer on them to make
them flush. |
 |
35) Insert the hammer, small hole forward
into the receiver and pulling the trigger,
the hammer should fall onto the bolt. |
 |
36) Replace the hammer spring. |
 |
37) Insert the bumper plug and tighten it
down. |
 |
38) Replace the stock onto the action and
tighten the take down screw to complete the
assembly process. |
 |
| 39) You have completed
the disassembly and reassembly of the
Reising Model 60. |
