2)
Point the pistol pointed in a safe direction
and make certain the pistol is unloaded.
Leave the pistol's slide in the rear and
locked position.
3)
Figure 3 shown the P.38 pistol's magazine release.
4)
Depress the magazine release.
5)
Remove the magazine from the pistol.
6)
With the slide pulled back and locked in place
the take down latch can be rotated counter clockwise
from the three o'clock position until about
the eight o'clock position (where it stops)
and this will facilitate the removal of the
slide assembly.
7)
Pull back on the slide and allow it to disengage
the manual slide stop. Allow the slide to
move forward.
8)
With the safety engaged the hammer will
automatically fall and the slide will move
forward.
9)
Remove the Slide assembly.
10)
Figure 10 shows the locking block locked in
place by the locking block pin. The arrow
points to the plunger end of the locking block
pin. With the locking block locked in place
by the locking block pin, the barrel cannot
slide out of the slide assembly.
11)
Figure 11 shows the locking block pivoted down
and the locking block pin's plunger pushed in.
This will allow for the barrel to slide out
of the slide assembly.
12)
Push in the locking block pin plunger and remove
the barrel from the slide assembly.
13)
Figure 13 shows the field disassembled P.38
pistol. The four parts are the magazine assembly,
barrel assembly, slide assembly, and the frame
assembly.
Reassembly
Instructions
14)
Insert the barrel into the slide assembly. Note
that in figure 14 the locking block is protruding.

15)
When sliding the slide onto the frame you need
to push up on the locking block so it resembles
figure 15.

The hammer should be down or forward. Slide
the slide onto the frame while holding the locking
block in its upward position.
17)
Pull the slide all of the way to the rear.
18)
Manually engage the slide stop to hold the slide
in place.
19)
Rotate the take down latch counter clockwise
to the three o'clock position.
20)
Pull back on the slide to disengage the slide
stop and allow the slide to move forward.
