How to: Disassemble and Reassemble the Madsen M47/Colombian M1958 Rifle

Disassembly Instructions
Click here to see larger image! 1) figure 1 shows the Madsen rifle.

NOTE: Make sure rifle is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction before proceeding.

Click here to see larger image! 2) Open bolt and pull to rear of receiver.
Click here to see larger image! 3) While keeping the trigger depressed, remove the bolt and set aside.
Click here to see larger image! 4) Depress retaining spring on  bayonet lug band as shown in figure 4.
Click here to see larger image! 5) Slide the bayonet lug band forward.
Click here to see larger image! 6) The lower band is also held in place by a retaining spring.
Click here to see larger image! 7) Depress the retaining spring and slide the lower barrel band forward.
Click here to see larger image! 8) Remove the lower barrel band by sliding it forward. You will have to slide the handguard as well since it has a lip located at its  front.
Click here to see larger image! 9) Once the handguard is far enough forward you can slide the lower barrel band off and forward.
Click here to see larger image! 10) Remove the handguard and set aside.
Click here to see larger image! 11) Unscrew the trigger guard front screw.

13) Unscrew the trigger guard rear screw.
14) Remove the trigger cover rear screw.

 

Click here to see larger image! 15) Press down on the magazine cover release and slide the magazine cover forward.

Click here to see larger image! 17) Remove the trigger guard.
Click here to see larger image! 18) Remove the barrel and receiver assembly from the stock.

Reassembly Instructions
Click here to see larger image! 20) Place barrel and receiver assembly back into the rifle stock as shown in figure 20.
Click here to see larger image! 21) Place the handguard back onto rifle.
Click here to see larger image! 22) Replace the lower barrel band and push to rear.
Click here to see larger image! 23) Depress the retaining spring and slide the lower barrel band till it is locked in place.
Click here to see larger image! 24) Depress retaining spring for the bayonet lug band as shown in figure 24.
Click here to see larger image! 25) Slide the bayonet lug band until it locks in place.
Click here to see larger image! 26) Replace trigger guard.
Click here to see larger image! 27) Install rear trigger guard screw.
Click here to see larger image! 28) Install front trigger guard screw.
Click here to see larger image! 29) Tighten rear trigger guard screw.
Click here to see larger image! 30) Tighten front trigger guard screw.
Click here to see larger image! 31) Place magazine follow and spring back into rifle as show in figure 31.
Click here to see larger image! 32) Press down on the magazine cover release and slide magazine cover into place until it locks.
