1) Insure the
safety lever is to the right in the safe
position.
2) Now grasp
the top cover and slide it forward to latch
onto the bolt and carrier.
3) Pull the top
cover back, this will bring the bolt and
carrier with it. Look into the chamber and
insure the weapon is empty of all ammo.
4) Now remove
the box magazine. Place the rifle on its
side. On the back of the magazine is the mag
latch. Rotate the pointed end of the latch
towards the trigger guard. It may be a
little stiff.
5) Now press
the latch towards the magazine.
6) And while
holding the latch forward Pull the Magazine
out of the rifle.
7) Return the
rifle to the upright position and move the
top cover forward a few inches.
8)
Place the safety lever in the middle
position, Now lift the Safety assembly out
of the rear of the action. (Figure 8)
9) The top
cover/ bolt and carrier may now be slid off
of the rear of the receiver. (Figure 9)
10) Caution
parts under spring tension! Place the top
cover/ bolt and carrier with the bolt face
down on your work surface. Hold it firmly
with one hand while pressing the small latch
on the back of the top cover. (Figure 10)
11) The bolt and
carrier will now be released from the top
cover. (Figure 11)
12) Turn the
carrier upside down and you can see the
bolt. (Figure 12)
13) Rotate the
bolt 90 degrees inside the carrier and it
may be removed from the carrier (Figure 13)
Now set these parts aside for further
disassembly later.
You have just completed the basic field
stripping of the Hakim.
14) Next remove
the stock and hand guard. Invert the rifle
again and look at the rear band. It is held
in place by a flat leaf spring.
Lift this spring to disengage the rear band
and slide the band forward. (Figure 14)
15) The front
band is snapped over the bayonet lug. The
lug is removed by removing the screw
that is directly under the barrel. (Figure
15)
Now with both bands up and loose on the
barrel get the rifle right side up again.
16) Raise the
rear sight straight up and lift the front of
the hand guard up and off the rifle. (Figure
16)
Turn it over again to remove the trigger
group.
17) The trigger
group is held in place by three screws.
These are located in the front middle and
rear of the group. (Figure 17)
18) These screws
are held into the frame by locking springs.
They may be turned but they will not come
out of the frame. This is to prevent loss in
the field. This also requires you to loosen
each one a few turns at a time to evenly
remove the trigger group from the action.
(Figure 18)
19) The stock may
now be lifted up and off of the barreled
action. (Figure 19)
20) (Figure 20)
This shows the relationship of the bayonet
lug and the front of the stock.
21)
(Figure 21) A Hakim broken down into it’s
major components.
22) Take down of
the Gas system:
About midway down the barrel is the gas
adjustment valve. Directly behind the valve
is the gas tube and the locking nut. (Figure
22) Loosen this nut with a wrench.
23) On the gas tube
itself you will find several flat spots
ground into the surface this is for using a
wrench to unscrew the tube from the valve.
(Figure 23)
24) Once the tube
is unscrewed from the valve, remove the
locking nut and slide the tube to the rear
of the action out from under the rear sight.
(Figure24)
25) The gas plug
(the adjustable part of the valve) Is kept
from moving by a spring plate that will
click into detents in the valve body.
26) Lift up in one
end of the plate and unscrew the gas plug.
(Figure 25) (Figure 26)
27) The Trigger
group:
The trigger group is a self-contained unit.
It is assembled with flair pins and pins
staked into place. (Figure 27)
28)
It is not easily taken apart and would
require reflairing and re staking of the
pins into place.
The trigger group is spread out and wide
open so cleaning and lubricating can be done
with out disassembly. (Figure 28)
29) The bolt hold
open and ejector are also pinned into the
receiver. (Figure 29)
30) Bolt take
down:
The bolt is taken down just like a SKS bolt.
A transverse keeper pin is pressed out at
the rear of the bolt and the spring-loaded
pin will come out. The keeper pin is split
at one end looking like a screw. It is not a
screw. It is split to add some spring
tension to hold it into place.
31)
The firing pin is a three-piece pin and a
spring. (Figure 30) (Figure 31)
1) To remove the
extractor place the bolt in a padded vice.
32) The extractor
is held in place by a flat leaf spring it
has a notch in each end. (Figure 32) (Figure
33)
34) Place a scribe
or other pointed object under the forward
notch to raise it above the shoulder in the
extractor. (Figure 34)
35) Now using a
punch in the rear notch tap the spring
forward over the extractor. (Figure 35)
36) Once the spring
is over the shoulder in the extractor you
may remove the scribe and finish tapping out
the spring. (Figure 36)
37) Figure 37 shows
the removed extractor and spring.
Reassembly
Instructions
38) Bolt
reassembly: With the bolt in a padded vice
place the extractor into place and tap the
leaf spring into place with a hammer and
drift. (Figure 38)
39) Now while
holding the bolt in you hand replace the
firing pin with spring the long tappet with
the head down toward the firing pin and the
keeper with the notch toward the bottom
(flat side) of the bolt. Press in on the
keeper with your thumb and reinstall the
pin. (Figure 39)
You may need to tap it into place.
40) Rifle
Reassembly: Slide the gas tube back through
the rear sight base, install the jam nut and
screw the tube into the gas valve. (Figure
40)
41) Now tighten the
jam nut. (Figure 41)
42) Reinstall the
gas valve plug and spring base. (Figure 42)
43) Now Place the
barreled action back into the stock and
install the trigger group in the reverse of
the removal. Remember to tighten each screw
a few turns at a time to insure it is pulled
up evenly into the stock and receiver.
Raise the rear sight and place the hand
guard into place. (Figure 43)
44) Slide the rear
band into place and under the spring keeper
(Figure 44)
45) Place the
bayonet lug back into the front of the stock
and snap the front band into place over it.
(Figure 45)
46) Now install the
bayonet lug retaining screw. (Figure 46)
47) Take the bolt
and reinstall it into the carrier. (Figure
47)
48)
Slide the carrier into the receiver and all
the way forward. (Figure 48)
(Note make sure the hammer is cocked. You
may have to press down slightly on the
hammer to get the bolt/carrier to slide
forward.)
49)
Now slide the top cover into place. Ensure
the recoil spring is in the hole in the
carrier. (Figure 49)
50)
Slide the top cover all the way forward
until it locks on to the carrier and install
the safety block.
(Figure 50)
51)
Pull the top cover all the way to the rear.
While keeping all fingers and other objects
away from the bolt and carrier move the
safety lever to the fire position and the
bolt will slam closed.
(Figure 51)
Reinstall the magazine and your Hakim Rifle
is ready for the range.
