The Hakim, chambered for the 8x57JS Mauser round, is based upon the Swedish Ljungman rifle and was built under contract in Egypt with a few minor changes. It is a gas operated, semi-automatic rifle that is fed from a removable 10 round box magazine. The user adjustable gas system is of the “Direct Impingement” type, meaning that spent gas from the cartridge is vented from the barrel and directed through the gas tube to act upon the bolt carrier to eject the spent round and cock the hammer. A recoil spring then pushes the bolt and carrier back forward to strip a fresh round from the magazine into the chamber ready to fire.
