Safety: With the rifle pointed
in a safe direction, open the bolt and make sure the
rifle is not loaded. |

Open the bolt and pull it to the rear of the
receiver.

While depressing the trigger, remove the
bolt from the receiver. |
 |

Unscrew the cleaning rod. |
 |
5)
Remove the cleaning rod. |
 |
6)
Unscrew the forward band screw. |
 |
7) Remove the forward band screw. |
 |
8)
The forward band is a hinged unit. Unscrew
the locking screw.

9)
Pivot the top of the forward band open.
|
 |
10)
Remove the forward band. |
 |
11)
Unscrew the rear band screw. |
 |
12) Remove the rear band screw. |
 |
13) Depress the rear band spring and slide
the rear band forward. |
 |
14) Slide the rear band forward. |
 |
15) Remove the handguard.

16) Unscrew the trigger guard screw. |
 |
17) Unscrew the tang screw.
|
 |
18) Remove the trigger guard screw.
|
 |
19) Remove the tang screw.
|
 |
20) Remove the trigger guard by pulling
straight upwards. |

21) Depress the floor plate latch.
|
 |
22) Open the floor plate. |
 |
23) Depress the magazine follower and
compress the follower spring. Remove
magazine follower and floor plate assembly
from magazine.

24) Unscrew the floor plate latch screw. |
 |
25) Remove the floor plate latch screw. |
 |
26) Remove the floor plate latch. |
 |
27) Lift barrel and receiver from stock. |
 |
28) Unscrew the upper butt plate screw.

 |
29) Remove the upper butt plate screw. |
 |
30) Unscrew the lower butt plate screw.
|
 |
31) Remove the lower butt plate screw.
|
 |
32) Remove the butt plate.
|
 |
33) Unscrew the top, side-rear sling screw.
|
 |
34) Remove the top, side-rear sling screw.
|
 |
35) Unscrew the bottom, side-rear sling
screw. |
 |
36) Remove the bottom, side-rear sling
screw.

 |
37) Remove the side-rear sling. |
 |
38) Unscrew the rear, rear sling screw. |
 |
39) Remove the rear, rear sling screw. |
 |

Unscrew the forward, rear sling screw.
|
 |
41) Remove the forward, rear sling screw. |
 |

Remove the rear sling.
|
 |
43) Unscrew the bolt stop screw.
|
 |
44) Remove the bolt stop screw. |
 |
45) Using a pointed object push the trigger
pin out of the trigger.

 |
46) Remove the trigger pin. |
 |
47) Remove the trigger and bolt stop.
|
 |
48) Separate the trigger and bolt stop. |
 |
49) Unscrew the ejector screw.
|
 |
50) Remove the ejector screw.
|
 |
51) Tap the ejector spring forward.
|
 |
52) Remove the ejector spring.
|
 |
53)Remove the ejector. |
 |
54) Tap out the rear sight retaining pin.
|
 |
55) Remove the rear sight.
|
 |
56) Remove the rear sight spring. |

Reassembly
Instructions |

57) Set the rear sight spring into place.
|
 |
58) Replace the rear sight.
|
 |
59) Use a non marring clamp to hold the rear
sight in place.
|
 |
60) Insert the rear sight retaining pin.
|
 |
61) Tap the rear sight retaining pin into
place. |
 |
62) Insert the ejector as show in figure 62. |
 |
63) Insert the ejector spring into the groove in
side of receiver as shown in figure 63.
|
 |
64) Tap the ejector spring to the rear so the hole
is lined up with the threaded hole in the
receiver. |
 |
65) Insert the ejector screw. |
 |
66) Tighten the ejector screw. |
 |
67) Combine the trigger and bolt stop. |
 |
68) Insert the trigger/bolt stop assembly
into the bottom of the receiver. |
 |
69) Insert the trigger pin. |
 |
70) Insert the bolt stop screw. |
 |
71) Tighten the bolt stop screw. |
 |
72) Work the trigger to ensure there is no
binding. |
 |
73) Replace the side-rear sling. |
 |
74) Replace the top, side-rear sling
screw. |
 |
75) Replace the bottom, side-rear sling
screw. |
 |
76) Tighten the top, side-rear sling screw. |
 |
77) Tighten the bottom, side-rear sling
screw. |
 |

Replace the rear sling.

Replace the forward, rear sling screw. |
 |

Replace the rear, rear sling screw. |
 |

Tighten the forward, rear sling screw. |

Tighten the rear, rear sling screw. |

83) Install the butt plate. |

84) Install the upper butt plate screw. |

85) Tighten the upper butt plate screw. |

86) Install the lower butt plate screw. |

88) Insert the barrel and receiver into
the stock. |

89) Replace the floor plate latch. |
 |
90) Replace the floor plate latch screw. |

91) Tighten the floor plate latch screw. |

Depress the magazine follower and compress
the follower spring and then replace the
magazine follower and floor plate assembly
in the magazine.

Allow the magazine follower spring to
expand. Close the floor plate and depress the
floor plate latch to latch in place. |
 |
94)
Replace the trigger guard. |
 |
95)
Replace
the trigger guard screw. |
 |
96)
Replace the
tang screw. |
 |
97)
Tighten the tang screw only partially. |
 |
98)
Tighten the trigger
guard screw. |
 |
99)
Fully tighten the tang screw. |
 |
100) Install hand guard up against the rear
sight. |
 |
101)
Slide the rear band onto the stock and
hand guard. |
 |
102)
Slide the rear band to the rear. |
 |
103)
Insert the rear band screw. |
 |
104)
Tighten the rear band screw. |
 |
105)
Slide the forward band onto the stock
and hand guard. |
 |
106) Close the forward band around the stock
and hand guard. |
 |

Insert the forward
band screw. |
 |
108)
Tighten the forward
band screw. |
 |
109) Tighten the forward band lock screw. |
 |

Insert the cleaning rod. |
 |

Tighten the cleaning rod. |

Push the bolt all the way forward. |

Close the bolt. You have completed the
disassembly and reassembly of the Finnish
m/39 rifle. |
