1) With the rifle pointed in a safe direction, open the bolt and make sure the rifle is not loaded. 
2) While depressing the trigger, remove the bolt from the receiver.
3) Unscrew the cleaning rod.
4) Remove the cleaning rod.
5) Unscrew the tang screw.
6) Remove the tang screw.
7) Unscrew the trigger guard screw.
8) Remove the trigger guard screw.
9) Remove the trigger guard by pulling straight upwards.
10) Depress the floor plate latch.

 

11) Open the floor plate.

 

12) Depress the magazine follower and compress the follower spring.

 

13) Remove magazine follower and floor plate assembly from magazine. 

 

14) Unscrew the forward band screw.

 

15) Remove the forward band screw.

 

16) Remove the forward band.

 

17) Unscrew the rear band screw.

 

18) Remove the rear band screw.

 

19) Slide the rear band forward.

 

20) Remove the handguard.
21) Lift barrel and receiver from stock.

 

22) Unscrew the upper butt plate screw.

 

23) Remove the upper butt plate screw.

 

24) Unscrew the lower butt plate screw.
25) Remove the lower butt plate screw.
26) Remove the butt plate.

 

27) Unscrew the bolt stop screw.
28) Remove the bolt stop screw.

 

29) Using a pointed object push the trigger pin out of the trigger.
30) Note that in figure 30 there is a coiled spring that is held in place by the trigger pin.

 

31) Remove the trigger and bolt stop.
32) Separate the trigger and bolt stop. 

 

 

Note: The m/28 differs from the typical Mosin-Nagant as it does not have a separate ejector and ejector spring. The m/28 is a single piece unit.
33) Unscrew the ejector screw.

 

 

34) Remove the ejector screw.

 

35) Tap the ejector forward.

 

36) Remove the ejector.

 

 

Reassembly Instructions

37) Insert the ejector into the g4roove in side of receiver as shown in figure 37.

 

38) Tap the ejector to the rear so the hole is lined up with the threaded hole in the receiver.

 

39) Insert the ejector screw.

 

40) Tighten the ejector screw.

 

Note: The m/28 trigger components differ from the typical Mosin-Nagant in that there is an additional spring that is inserted in the rear of the trigger and held in place when the trigger pin is inserted.
41) Combine the trigger and bolt stop.

 

42) Combine the trigger and bolt stop as shown in figure 42.

 

43) Note the coiled spring inserted into trigger and the bolt stop. The trigger pin when inserted will hold the spring in place. Insert the trigger and bolt stop.

 

44) Insert the trigger pin. Note position of spring ends.
45) Install the bolt stop screw.

 

46) Tighten the bolt stop screw.

 

47) Work the trigger to ensure there is no binding.

 

48)  Install the butt plate.

 

49) Install the lower butt plate screw.

 

50) Tighten the lower butt plate screw.

 

51) Install the upper butt plate screw.
52) Tighten the upper butt plate screw.

 

 

 

 

53) Insert the barrel and receiver into the stock.

 

54) Depress the magazine follower and compress the follower spring and then replace the magazine follower and floor plate assembly in the magazine.

 

55) Allow the magazine follower spring to expand.

 

56) Close the floor plate and depress the floor plate latch to latch in place.

 

57) Replace the trigger guard.

 

 

58) Replace the trigger guard screw.

 

 

59) Tighten the trigger guard screw.

 

 

60) Replace the tang screw.

 

 

61) Tighten the tang screw.

 

62) Install handguard up against the rear sight.

 

63) Slide the rear band onto the stock and handguard.

 

64) Slide the rear band to the rear.
65) Insert the rear band spring screw.
66) Tighten the rear band spring screw.
67) Slide the forward band onto the stock and handguard.
68) Insert the forward band screw.
69) Tighten the forward band screw.
70) Insert the cleaning rod.
71) Tighten the cleaning rod.
72) Insert the bolt.
73) Push the bolt all the way forward.
74) Close the bolt.
