An Ammunition Summary
The Lee Enfield
military rifle has been “on-duty” for over
100 years. In some locations, it still
continues to
serve!
This book is the
masterful work of Ian Skennerton, the most
diligent of Lee Enfield detectives! The
previous edition of this book by Skennerton
(The Lee Enfield Story) was published in
1993. Not content to rest on his laurels,
author Skennerton continued his research.
Additional models and documentation
continued to surface. This final book is
result of 4 years additional investigation.
Author Skennerton rightly begins with a
full page of acknowledgments to the men,
women and organizations, which are located
on most every continent, which assisted in
the preparation of this most exhaustive
work.
Every model is
covered in detail. The chapter on
“Manufacture & Armourer Markings” decodes
the large amount of stampings and markings
that Lee Enfield rifles are famous for.
The chapter entitled “Lee-Enfield
Hybrids” got me salivating with pictures and
specifications on little known and
experimental models. Think you’ll never see
one of those rare rifles? Think again!
Within the last few months, a reader emailed
me and sent a picture of an “odd looking“
Lee-Enfield he picked up rather
inexpensively. Skennerton’s book allowed us
to quickly discover this lucky reader found
a true jewel. One of those rare and
almost never seen models!
Not only are the
guns covered, but also much space is devoted
to armourer tools, bayonets, canvas items
etc. The chapter on ammunition will warm
the heart of any hull stuffer. There is
simply too much great information, pictures
and illustrations in this fine book to cover
in a short
review.
If you love the
Lee Enfield, this book is simply the best
reference there is, an invaluable addition
to your home library. Remember, this is the
final edition, get it now!
