 |
1)
Check to make sure unloaded. Note silver
magazine follower is a replacement that
allows for single loading of rounds (see
article on Guardia Civil Mauser). |
 |
2)
Remove the bolt using bolt release on side
of rifle. |
 |
3)
Using an appropriate device, push magazine
release button. Push down and slide place
back toward trigger. |
 |
4)
Remove magazine spring and follower. |
 |
5)
Some Mausers have screw locks. Rotate the
head of the smaller screw such that you can
rotate freely the larger head of the
receiver screws. Or you may remove the
locking screw. |
 |

Stuck Screw
Suggestions |
-
Spray some solvent or
penetrating oil and let them
soak;
- Use
a proper fitting screw driver;
- Use
a hammer and punch to tap the
screw in the direction to
loosen.

6)
Remove or align rear locking screw. |
 |
7)
Unscrew front receiver screw. |
 |
8)
Remove front receiver screw. |
 |
9)
Remove rear receiver screw. |
 |
10)
Remove the trigger guard by pulling straight
upwards. |
 |
11)
Push the
rear barrel band spring inward and pull
cleaning rod straight out. It does not screw
in. |
 |
12) Note the notch on the cleaning rod where
it locks with the rear barrel band spring. |
 |
13) Removal of bayonet mount and front cap.
You may need to push down on the forward
band spring. Knock the bayonet mount toward
the front of the barrel. |
 |
14) Note forward band spring and forward
band is loose. |
 |
15) Knock out retaining pin holding
the cap. |
 |
16) Pull the cap forward and out.
|
 |
17) Loosen swivel barrel band (the rifle
pictured has a nut on the bottom side). |
 |
18) Push down on the rear barrel band spring
and slide rear barrel band off. You may need
a “third” helping hand or device if your
band spring is difficult to push in.

 |
19) Lift the rear sight.
Pull/push for-end stock slightly toward
muzzle to pull it out from under the
receiver ring.
NOTE: There may be small nails holding the
for-end stock in place.

 |
20) Rotate the wood around rear sight and
lift away. |
 |
21) Turn stock over and action/barrel should
pop out. You may need to tap lightly on the
stock to release the action.

Short Mauser (Guardia Civil). |

Reassembly
Instructions |

23) Place action into stock. |
 |
24) Rotate fore-end wood around the rear
sight. Note to push the lip of wood under
the clip at top of receiver. |
 |
25) Flip the rifle over, push down on rear
barrel band spring and slide barrel band
into place until it clicks with spring. |
 |
26) Note hole in front cap pictured in
figure 26. This must align with holes in
stock. |
 |
27) Push the cap into place and align with
holes in stock. |
 |
28) Place pin in holes and tap into
position, flush with wood. |
 |
29) Tap the bayonet mount into place,
pushing down on forward band spring at same
time. |
 |
30) Make sure that the forward band spring
clicks into place and is flush with the wood
of the stock. |
 |
31) Push down on rear band spring and slide
the cleaning rod into place until it clicks. |
 |
32) Place the trigger guard into place.

 |
33) Replace tang screw.
|
 |
34) Replace the forward guard screw. |
 |
35) Screw in receiver screws and then align
the locking screws to hold receiver screws
in place. |
 |
36) Slide magazine spring/follower into
magazine well, compress the spring and slide
cover in place and lock.

 |
37) Slide bolt into receiver using bolt
release on side of receiver and you are
finished reassembling the rifle. |
